Manipur withdraws order to 'not give shelter to Myanmar refugees'

  • The Manipur government had earlier issued an order according to which the local administration or civil society would neither give shelter nor food to the refugees coming from Myanmar.
  • The state govt has now withdrawn its earlier order according to which the local administration was forced to provide food and shelter to the refugees.
  • This information was given by government sources. Significantly, this order was issued on 26th March.
  • The State Home Department has also directed Chandel, Tangnoupal, Kemjong, Ukhrul, and Churachandpur to ensure that the Aadhaar registration work is stopped with immediate effect.
  • Significant protests have been taking place in Myanmar demanding the withdrawal of democracy by military rulers taking overpower and the arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi.
