Higher secondary syllabus to be pruned

Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan has said the department will consider reducing the lessons for higher secondary classes as students and teachers feel the syllabus is vast and difficult to cover within the stipulated time.
Speaking to mediapersons at Gobichettipalayam here on Saturday, he said the department had received several representations that the lessons created additional burden on students and the syllabus could not be covered within the working days.
He said that the representations were being considered and a decision would be taken soon.
About the Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javedekar’s statement that the NCERT syllabus for students from Class 1 to 12 would be reduced by half from the academic year 2019, Mr. Sengottaiyan clarified that it applied only to schools affiliated to the CBSE.
