‘State should seek aid of 6,000 crore from Centre’

Former Higher Education Minister Basvaraj Rayaraddi has written to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, asking him to lead an all-party delegation to the Union government and seek financial assistance of 6,000 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund and the State Disaster Response Fund for relief work in the drought-affected north Karnataka districts and the flood-hit Kodagu.
Addressing presspersons here, he said the Centre has been showing a step-motherly attitude towards Karnataka in the past four years by granting it the least amount for calamity relief.
“We have been getting nearly 500 crore less that our requirement all these years. This time, while the north Karnataka districts continue to reel under drought, Kodagu has suffered huge losses owing to the floods. The Chief Minister should lead an all-party delegation and urge the Prime Minister to release ₹6,000 crore aid to the State,” he said.
