BSP creates history in Karnataka, N Mahesh wins Kollegal constituency

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) created history in Karnataka assembly elections as state president N Mahesh won Kollegal assembly constituency. BSP's Mahesh polled 31362 votes and secured 40.62% vote share. The runner-up Congress'  A.R. Krishna Murthy got 24764 votes with 32.07 per cent votes.   The BJP's GN Nanjunda Swamy was pushed to the third spot. 

Kollegal is reserved for Schedule Category (SC) candidates. The total number of voters Kollegal is 1, 93, 293. Male voters account for 1,00,659 and 98, 920 female voters. From 1957 to 2013, the Congress has won 10 times, the BJP only once in the 2009 bypoll.
