Curtorim MLA urges CM to revamp drug trade surveillance system

  • Congress Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco while alleging that narcotic dealers enjoy political patronage, urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to immediately revamp the whole system used to control the drug trade in Goa.
  • In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, he referred to the increase in drug quantity being seized and argued that the fact that drug dealers are being repeatedly arrested for the same crime was an indication of the political patronage enjoyed by them.
  • Speaking about how the drug menace in Goa has moved from the coastal belt to interior villages and even to schools and colleges, Reginaldo demanded that the “feeble” anti drug machinery be reinvigorated so that the culprits are punished stringently for their crimes.
  • While asserting that mere detention will not help curb the drug trade in Goa, he asked the agency to identify the route from where the drugs are supplied to Goa.
