Tamil Nadu CM flags off 500 new govt buses

Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday flagged off 500 new government buses worth Rs 158 crore. These are the seventh batch of new buses to be launched in the last one year by the state transport department.

Of the 500 new buses, Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), Chennai, got 100 buses. These buses would replace old and condemned buses. Another 150 buses were added to State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) which operates long-distance buses in the state and to neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana.

Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) Villupuram, Salem, Coimbatore, and Kumbakonam have been allotted 10, 20, 30 and 110 buses respectively, according to an official release. Southern districts will have 80 new buses to be operated in and around Madurai and Tirunelveli. In the earlier phases, 3,381 new buses were launched. Share to Twitter
