The Congress party will ensure reservation for the Kapu community without hurting the interests of the Backward Classes, Congress leader and former Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi has said.
Addressing the media here, she said the regional parties like the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress Party could at best raise demands before the Centre.
“The Congress party alone could deliver the goods,” she said, adding that the first file to be signed by party president Rahul Gandhi on becoming the Prime Minister will the one on according Special Category Status to the State.
When Ms. Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter asking the BJP-led NDA government to grant SCS to the State and implement all the assurances made to it , the TDP and the YSRCP had not backed the party’s demand, she added.
Party vice-president N. Thulasi Reddy contended that the NDA government at the Centre and the TDP government in the State had totally failed on all fronts. The YSRCP had also failed to live up to the expectations of the people.
“Why should people vote for a party which quits Parliament and boycott the State Assembly when they have elected their candidates to represent them in the law-making bodies,” he asked.
