Good news for Assam. 113 years old Mahur-Harangajao meter-gauge line in Dima Hasao District of Assam might receive ‘Heritage’ tag. For promoting heritage tourism, Indian Railways is planning to preserve its old five-meter gauge tracks built during the British era. The 47 km Mahur-Harangajao meter-gauge line in Assam is among the shortlisted tracks and might soon receive the much-anticipated ‘Heritage’ tag say recent reports.
The Mahur-Harangajao section of the now-abandoned Silchar-Lumding meter gauge track which has every ingredient to be developed as a heritage track. One of the tracks are that a part of the plan. It is the only one that isn’t functional, among a total of five tracks chosen for the purpose.
