Rekha Gupta Government's U-turn on Delhi Old Vehicle's Policy! Know what the people of Delhi have...
From 1st July 2025, the Delhi government launched a strict new rule—petrol won’t be sold to petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years! This rule, backed by the Supreme Court’s 2018 order, aimed to control air pollution in the national capital. More than 62 lakh vehicles in Delhi were affected, including over 41 lakh two-wheelers and 18 lakh four-wheelers. On just the first two days, authorities seized 140+ vehicles and sent 200+ notices. With 500 petrol pumps fitted with ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras, the enforcement was tough and immediate. But then came the public backlash, especially from Delhi’s middle class. Common people complained of faulty ANPR systems, non-functional cameras, and a lack of clarity about which vehicles were being flagged. There was visible confusion and frustration across the city.
