Karnataka Govt to Pay Rs 100 Crores on Failure to Meet Deadline

  • The Karnataka govt will have to pay Rs 100 crore for its failure to meet the deadline on the restoration of heavily polluted Bellandur, Varthur and Agara lakes.
     
  • The NGT had set a deadline of June 30, 2019, for the lake clean-up, but the government failed to achieve results by that date. 
     
  • On failure to meet the deadline, the NGT had fixed a Rs 100 Crores as the penalty.

  • The SC bench comprising of CJI Sa Bobde dismissed Karnataka's appeal.
     
  • They insisted on performance guarantee since the state and its authorities were not performing their duty.
