NC dumps Congress in Jammu and Kashmir, to contest assembly elections alone

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah-led National Conference (NC) has decided to sever its ties with the Congress. The National Conference may now contest the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections alone, according to the reports. The assembly polls in the state may take place later this year.
The development has come a few weeks after Congress's drubbing in the state in Lok Sabha polls for which, the party has blamed the National Conference. Congress had alleged that Farooq and Omar Abdullah did not campaign for the party in Jammu.
Speaking to India Today TV, Congress chief spokesperson in J&K Ravinder Sharma cited many reasons for the party's rout in Lok Sabha elections and also lashed out at the NC, saying its leaders didn't campaign for the Congress candidates.
