Sterlite Copper closure: G.O. legally valid, reiterates Edappadi Palaniswami

Replying to a plea made by the Congress in the Assembly seeking a House resolution on the closure of Sterlite Copper in Thoothukudi, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday said that the G.O. issued over the sealing and closure of the unit was sufficient.
“As of today, the Central Pollution Control Board has not issued any order. Hence, the G.O. issued by the Tamil Nadu government towards the permanent closure of this company is legally valid,” Mr. Palaniswami said and cited certain sections of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 to support his claim.
