2019 polls will define India for several years: Chidambaram

The general elections slated for next year will “define” India for the next several years and the Karnataka Assembly elections will have an impact on the outcome of the elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, said Congress MP and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday.
“In the 2019 polls the major plank is are we going down the road of a Hindu rashtra, one culture, one history, one religion, one language, one code of behaviour or are we going to win back the kind of India that we still dream of ... multi-cultural, plural, multi-religious, multi-lingual, and tolerant.
“That is the major plank. It will define India. The 2019 elections will define India for the next several years,” Mr. Chidambaram said in an interview.
