Centre prohibits UP, Bihar from throwing dead bodies in Ganga, asks for safe & dignified funeral
The central government today directed UP and Bihar to ban the throwing of dead bodies in the Ganges and its tributaries.
The court insisted on their safe and dignified funeral. This instruction has been given at a time when many bodies were found floating in these rivers.
In a review meeting held on 15-16th May, the Centre said that recently there have been many cases of dead bodies, partially burnt and mutilated bodies, which is highly inappropriate.
The Ministry of Waterpower said that Namami Gange instructs the states to ban the flow of dead bodies in the Ganges and emphasize their safe disposal.
State pollution control boards have been directed to monitor water quality repeatedly in collaboration with health departments.
