Mysuru library set on fire, 11,000 books burnt, social media raises Rs 13 lakh to help the owner

  • A pubic library that was maintained by a 62-year-old laborer in Mysuru was allegedly set on fire by some unknown people.
  • The library was run by Syed Issaq. It had over 11,000 books, mostly in Kannada. Issaq has said that there were books and papers of all religions.
  • He said that everything has been burnt down and destroyed. He has also filed a complaint alleging the fire may have been set by those who are against the Kannada language.
  • The fire news was instantly spread to social media. On hearing about the incident, people on social media have so far raised ₹ 13 lakh to help Mr. Issaq, who is determined to build the library again.
