Students, workers stages protest at Jantar Mantar amid unemployment, demands 'Right to Work' as fundamental

  • Workers, students and the youth Congress protested on Monday against the Centre's policy decisions.
  • According to the protesters, the Centre's decisions are only leading to a “worsening of the situation of unemployment” in the country.
  • The public meeting at Jantar Mantar was held under the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Students Federation of India (SFI), and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).
  • A R Sindhu of CITU claimed that loss of jobs has increased under the BJP government due to its “disastrous policies”.
  • The protesting groups pressed their 12-point demand charter, which included implementation of the Bhagat Singh Urban Employment Guarantee Act, which is meant to ensure 200 workdays for all employable people at minimum wage rates.
