Bengali artiste dropped from play over joining BJP, a Twitter user asks, Is it the example of artistic freedom?

  • West Bengal elections are going to be held in the eight stages. The first phase will start on March 27 and the last phase will be voted on April 29.
  • In a recent development, a theatre group in West Bengal has dropped an artiste, named Kaushik Kar, from a play after he joined the BJP.
  • Saurav Palodhi, who is a writer and a director, posted on Facebook, "We are removing Kaushik Kar from 'Ghum Nei' with immediate effect because he has joined the BJP."
  • He further added that it is enough reason to remove Kaushik Kar in the present times as there is no place for communal elements in a play.
  • After the post, social media was flooded with trolls. Twitter user Arya Roy said, "Is it the example of artistic freedom? Democratic right? Can an artist be judged by his Leftist or Rightist leanings?"
