Walayar rape-murder cases: Kerala govt removes the prosecutor

  • On Monday, the Pinarayi Vijayan government announced the removal of the public prosecutor in the rape and murder case of two minor girls of Walayar in 2017.
     
  • The government has been facing persistent criticism over its handling of these cases.
     
  • Vijayan told the Assembly that his government would respect the wishes of the victims of the parents of the two victims and would consider their demands for a CBI probe.
     
  • The victims' family had alleged that members of the CPI(M) had an attempt to influence investigations. 
     
  • Let us tell you that the two minor girls, who were sisters, were found hanging after being sexually assaulted in January and March 2017.
