Stop benefits to offspring of non-Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe men: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union
The apex students’ body of Arunachal Pradesh has set the Pema Khandu government a 30-day deadline from Tuesday to identify the offspring of tribals from outside the State who have been availing benefits of Scheduled Tribe communities.
Arunachal Pradesh has been grappling with the issue of the offspring of non-Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (non-APST) men “enjoying all the rights” meant for the wards of tribal couples indigenous to the State.
“The interest of our State’s indigenous people comes first. Our union has in consultation with various community-based organisations decided to make the government arrive at a solution to this long-drawn issue,” All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) president Hawa Bagang said.

The union has also asked the district authorities to desist from issuing ST certificates to people of “non-indigenous descent” and demanded punishment for any official found issuing documents fraudulently.
