Kummanam should contest Vattiyoorkkavu bypoll; demand from BJP constituency committee

BJP Vattiyoorkkavu constituency committee demanded that veteran leader Kummanam Rajasekharan should be fielded as candidate in the upcoming by-election in Vattiyoorkkavu assembly constituency. The committee evaluated that though Kummanam was defeated and K. Muraleedharan won in the previous assembly election, Kummanam came in the second position in his constituency and has chances of victory this time. A list of possible candidates was submitted to the state leadership. After Kummanam, Thiruvananthapuram district president S. Suresh and V. V. Rajesh also are included in the list. Though the bypoll has not been declared, a two-tier opinion survey is taking place within the party to select the candidate. Besides Vattiyoorkkavu constituency committee, district committee also collected opinion. State general secretaries K. Surendran, M. T. Ramesh, spokesperson M. S. Kumar and secretary J. R. Padmakumar also are included in the list submitted to the district commitee.

The lists were handed over to general secretary M. T. Ramesh. The state election committee will examine the list and hand it over to the central committee for final decision. BJP started preparations for the bypoll even though it is likely to take place in November.
Though there is demand to field Kummanam in the upcoming election, there is doubt whether the party would experiment with him again. RSS is unlikely to suggest him for the bypolls after the Lok Sabha election debacle in Kerala.
It was RSS which compelled the leadership to make Kummanam resign as Mizoram governor and contest the Lok Sabha polls from Thiruvananthapuram. So, it is less likely to suggest any names this time.
