Fish in South Goa markets tested positive for formalin: AAP

In a startling revelation, Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday claimed that the fish in the four major markets in South Goa tested positive for formalin. The party expressed concerned over the health of Goans and has expressed its willingness to test the fish. Testing kits were procured and fish was tested at different places namely Margao wholesale market, Colva market, Quepem market and Loutolim. "In all the above-mentioned places the fish tested positive for formalin," claimed Siddharth Karapurkar.

"Government should come clear on whether formalin is bad for health or whether there it is within permissible limits. The people need to know, what is meant by permissible limits and to what extent formalin affects humans if ingested on regular basis since fish is the staple diet of Goans," said Ramiro Mascarenhas, AAP South Goa Treasurer.
"Promises made to the general public on setting up of state of the art laboratories to testing fish for formalin are yet to be fulfilled. The government claims that fish is checked regularly at borders but there is fish transported by Railways and who is checking that," AAP spokesperson Richard D'Sa said.
