Asserting that to keep Margao clean, he would even go for a change in the Margao Municipal Council, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai lamented that the role of Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) in dealing with Sonsoddo is not yet clear.
 “What will be the role of Solid Waste Management Corporation is still not clear as the government has given some assurances on the floor of the House and hence MMC will have to work with the government on the matter,” he said.
“It is still not clear whether the Solid Waste Management Corporation will be only clearing the accumulated garbage through bio-remediation or whether they will also deal with the waste collected daily,” he said.
“The Saligao plant cannot be replicated at Margao and hence the Solid Waste Management Corporation is not in a position to deal with the waste that is collected every day,” he said indicating that MMC could be facing a problem from August 9 in dealing with the collected waste.
 
That the changed political situation in the State is likely to affect MMC was evident on Friday when Sardesai said he was willing to change the council to give Margao residents a clean town. It would be pertinent to point out that since the change in the political situation there has been a concerted move to oust Dr Babita Prabhudessai as the chairperson.
 
Besides Vijai expressing his willingness to change the council that he has nurtured since its formation, the presence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat for MMC programme after a long gap was another indication of the likely changed scenario.
