Digambar is new Oppn leader

After much delay, the Congress party on Wednesday  named former chief minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat as the new leader of the Opposition in the state legislative assembly. The position of the Opposition leader fell vacant after former Opposition leader Chandrakant Kavlekar  led a group of 10 Congress MLAs and merged it into the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Reacting to his selection, Kamat said, “I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to the Congress president and all my colleagues in the legislative assembly of our party for having reposed faith in me.”
He said that he will co-ordinate with all the Opposition MLAs to corner the government during the ongoing monsoon session of the state assembly. Goa pradesh Congress committee congratulated Kamat, wishing him success in the services to the people and the party.
Assuring him of full cooperation and support, Girish Chodankar, who recently resigned as the GPCC president, expressed confidence that Kamat’s political experience will help him take the party to greater heights by taking up people’s issues and “exposing corruption and anti-Goa decisions of the BJP-led government”.
