Increase seats in medical colleges: Gujarat govt to MCI

With the state-run medical colleges not meeting the Medical Council of India's (MCI) new guidelines for implementation of 10 per cent Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota, the state government on Monday will write to MCI with a proposal to increase 200 seats.
Of the 27 medical colleges in Gujarat, including BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad, Medical college, Baroda, MP Shah Government Medical college, Jamnagar, Pandit Deendayal Medical College, Rajkot and Surat Municipal Medical College, five state run colleges are run by the state government, and they all have 250 seats.
