Nirupam welcomed by 7-tier Govinda, BJP, Shiv Sena seeks action

The campaigning for the fourth phase of elections in Maharashtra came to an end on Saturday. Six constituencies of Mumbai go to polls on Monday. The last few days one has seen heavy weights of all parties coming to give the last minute push and some attractive ways of campaigning. One such different way of campaigning was seen in North Mumbai constituency, where the Congress candidate Sanjay Nirupam may just get into trouble. During his campaign, the ‘Jay Govinda’ squad greeted Nirupam with seven tier-pyramid. The Govinda squad made the seven tiers after 10.00 pm.
This was way beyond the deadline of the model code of conduct. Nirupam’s supporters fear they will be pulled up for breach of deadline. The BJP and Shiv Sena have already demanded action be taken against Nirupam.  Representatives of Govinda squad clarified they did not form the pyramid in support of Nirupam. That is their style of greeting leaders and they do the same for all leaders, irrespective of political parties. “It was not a pyramid only for Nirupam. It cannot be said it was part of his campaign and that is why there is no question of breach of model code of conduct,” Govinda squad said.
