Make foolproof arrangements for counting of votes: CS

Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam on Wednesday instructed District Collectors and Superintendents of Police to make foolproof arrangements for counting of votes on May 23 in accordance with the guidelines of Election Commission of India (ECI). He ordered that priority be given to proper training for the counting staff to ensure that there were no major problems.
Addressing Collectors and SPs through a video conference on the counting of votes, drinking water facility to be provided during summer and other issues on Wednesday, Mr. Subrahmanyam said tight security should be provided at the counting centres and along the routes through which Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be transported. All efforts should be made to avert clashes during counting and the subsequent days, he stated.
The CEO said a State-level workshop on the counting of votes would be held in the first week of May and Collectors were asked to set up media centres in all polling centres.
Mr. Subrahmanyam suggested to Collectors to promptly respond to issues related to drinking water supply and fodder availability even though the Model Code of Conduct was in force, as part of ‘continuous administration’ and paucity of funds if any should be taken to the notice of Secretary (Finance).
