Rangasamy Moopanar dead

G. Rangasamy Moopanar, 85, president, Sri Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha, Thiruvaiyaru, and executive committee member of the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC), died in Chennai on Tuesday.
He was the younger brother of former Congress leader and TMC founder G.K. Moopanar. G.R. Moopanar was known to be a pillar of strength for his elder brother in their family occupation of agriculture and in politics as well. He continued as an important office-bearer in the TMC after the party was revived by his nephew G.K. Vasan.
Hailing from Kabisthalam landlord R. Govindasamy Moopanar’s family, he was serving as president of Sri Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha, which organises the annual aradhana of Saint Thyagaraja at Thiruvaiyaru. He played a key role in the reconstruction of the house, where the saint-composer spent his last days at Thiruvaiyaru. The renovated house was thrown open for public view in June 2010.
