Why do farmers protest for their basic rights? Is this truly the India of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kissan'?

For decades now, farming in India has been shattered by drought, depleting water table, Poor storage facility, declining productivity and lack of modernization in agriculture etc. The share of agriculture in employment was 48.9 percent of the workforce. In other words, Agriculture is the principal source of livelihood for more than 58% of the population of this country. Still, farmers across India are struggling for their basic rights.
