Since Narendra Modi became India's Prime Minister in 2014, there has been a significant rise in Hindu nationalist rhetoric and hate crimes against minorities, driven by a well-planned strategy supported by opaque corporate donations, legal reforms favoring Hindu nationalist groups, and international funding networks. According to the Polis Project report titled "Transnational Funding in Hindu Supremacist Movements," this shift is not just societal but politically and financially orchestrated. Large conglomerates and billionaire industrialists, such as Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, have benefited from policy changes under Modi’s government and, in return, have helped finance the ruling party (BJP) through Electoral Bonds and other opaque mechanisms. The Electoral Bond Scheme (introduced in 2017) allowed political donations to be made anonymously, effectively legalizing "pay-to-play" corruption. The BJP has been the largest beneficiary, receiving over ₹12,930 crore ($1.5 billion) in donations, often from corporate entities that later secured lucrative government contracts. This corporate-political nexus has reinforced Hindu nationalist narratives, emboldened extremist groups, and contributed to the increasing violence and discrimination against Muslims and other minorities in India.
