Demand for work under the MGNREGA increased in the Corona period, but wages not being paid on time

  • The demand for work under the Rural Employment Guarantee Act MNREGA has been increasing following the 'lockdown' imposed in many states.
  • But the laborers are upset as they do not get their wages in time, some workers say that they will not be able to work in this condition now.
  • The Ministry of Rural Development said that 1.85 crore people have been given work under MGNREGA so far in May 2021 amid the epidemic.
  • This figure is 52 % higher as of May 2019. During that time, 1.22 crore people were given work.
