Amid Covid fear, EC bans election of 3 assemblies in West Bengal and Odisha

  • In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee's party TMC won a thumping majority, while BJP had to face defeat from here.
  • According to the information, on 5th May, Mamata Banerjee will take oath as the CM. On the other hand, the EC has banned the elections to be held in two assemblies in Murshidabad, Bengal.
  • The EC has held elections in Bengal's Shamsherganj and Jangipur assemblies and Odisha's Pipli till further orders.
  • The step has been taken in view of the increasing transition of Corona. After the death of the candidates of these seats, the election was scheduled to be held here on May 16th.
  • The Commission says that soon a new notification will be issued for the elections to be held in these seats.
