No women in National Defence Academy, Why?: Supreme Court asks Centre

  • The Supreme Court has today questioned the Central govt over a plea challenging the exclusion of women in the National Defence Academy and the Naval Academy.
  • Advocate Kush Kalra filed this petition by saying that a woman not allowed admission in NDA is a violation of the fundamental right of equality and the right to practice a profession.
  • The plea read that on the grounds of gender, a woman doesn't get an opportunity to give an NDA exam due to which they do not have access to any mode of entry to the armed forces as officers at this level.
  • A woman aspirant Anita joined the proceedings and told the court that due to such discriminatory rule, a woman is not allowed to apply for admission in NDA.
  • Letting you know, the NDA is the joint defense service training institute of the Indian Armed Forces, where cadets of the Indian Military Service, the Indian Naval Service, and the Indian Air Force Service train together.
