UPSC: Supreme Court denies extra chance for candidates who exhausted 2020's attempt amid pandemic

  • Many people, including frontline workers, exhausted their last attempt at UPSC examination which was held last year amid the COVID 19 pandemic.
  • The civil service aspirants asked for an extra attempt to sit for this year's Civil Service (Preliminary) examination. But, the Supreme Court rejected the demand.
  • The Centre has said that this year, 34,000 candidates are appearing for their last attempt of the preliminary examination, and giving such relaxations won't do justice.
  • The Centre added that if the relaxations are given then it may block the chances of the candidates appearing for the examination this year.
  • Letting you know, the petitions were dismissed by the bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Indu Malhotra, and Ajay Rastogi.
