Govt. vehicles older than 15 years banned in Bihar

  • Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has shown his concern over gradually increasing pollution and so he completely banned the state-owned vehicles which were more than 15 years old.

  • Talking to reporters, Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar informed that the restriction on vehicles has also been extended to commercial vehicles "only for the Patna metropolitan area".

  • He reported that private vehicles have been exempted from the ban, though owners would be required to get fresh pollution tests done.

  • Also, the govt. is thinking of encouraging conversion of all diesel-run auto-rickshaws to CNG-driven ones or, if possible, to use electricity.

  • Moreover, it was decided to minimise pollution caused by construction activities. For this, all sites will be duly covered and sprinkling of water will be done at regular intervals.
