BJP likely to favour mid-term elections instead of bypolls in Karnataka

In Karnataka, BJP is muddled over whether to face byelections or prepare  for fresh assembly polls.
Bypolls are necessary, after 14 MLAs from the Congress and three from JD(S) resigned and were disqualified by former speaker KR Ramesh Kumar in July. The rule mandates bypolls within six months of a seat falling vacant.
The matter of mid term polls was discussed in recent core committee meeting and many leaders put their views that the party should go for fresh polls instead of byelections to maintain the stability of the government.
Holding 105 legislatures the BJP must grab atleast nine seats of the opposition in the bypolls in order to gain a simple majority in the 224-member assembly.
But most of these seats are considerd to be strongholds of either the Congress or the JD(S), due to which it will be an arduous task for the saffron party to wrest these seats. That's why BJP leaders are somehow tilted for fresh assembly polls.
