Govt part of drug nexus in Goa: Congress

Congress has accused the government of being hand-in-glove with the drug peddlers and being a part of the drug nexus in the state. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar made the allegation in light of the large quantities of ganja seized from the hawkers during the clean-up drive carried out by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) at the Parade Ground in Campal in the capital.
Girish alleged that the police do not have the permission to act against the drug peddlers. “The hawkers are carrying out their drug business right under the nose of the cops in the city and the police are unaware of this, can it be possible? This clearly shows that the police are involved in the drug nexus and they are under pressure from the government not act against the drug peddlers,” he stated.
Recalling the statement of the Chief Minister on the floor of the House recently, Girish said that the CM claims there is no drug menace amongst the youth and the youth who are involved in the drugs the parents are responsible for it.
“How can the CM make such irresponsible statements? CM’s statement to blame the parents if the youth are being dragged into drugs is condemnable. It also shows that on side you claim there is no drug menace and on the other hand you want to wash your hands of it and not take responsibility to clear the menace. The reluctance shows that the government is involved in the drug nexus in the State”, he added.
Stating that despite several small raids during the last several months and seizure of drugs and other narcotics substances, Girish questioned why the police were unable to reach to the main suppliers of the drug peddlers in the State or outside.
