Tendulkar urges Centre to enact law to restart mining in Goa

Describing the pitiable condition of the mining-dependent families in Goa vis-a-vis closure of mining operations in the state, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Rajya Sabha member Vinay Tendulkar on Monday urged the Union government to enact a legislation for restarting iron ore mining industry in Goa.
The state mining industry has been shut since March 2018 by way of a Supreme Court direction.
Tendulkar, who raised Goa mining issue in the Upper House of the Parliament, further pointed out how the closure of the industry has seriously affected 75,000 families in Goa.
“Now the situation is such that parents in the mining-dependent families don’t even have money to pay school fees of their children,” he said.
Tendulkar also stated that Goa’s economy is dependant on mining and tourism. “I urge the government to enact a law to restart mining activities in Goa at the earliest,” he said.
