Sub-station being established to address power outages: Minister

Minister for Information Technology M. Manikandan said that a new sub-station was being established at Pattinamkathan area at the cost of about ₹one crore and the district would soon be freed from frequent power cuts and low voltage problems.
Talking to reporters after flagging off new buses at the new bus stand here on Sunday, he said several parts of the district faced blackout for two days during last week after ceramic insulators in the high transmission towers exploded following corrosion and efforts were being made to permanently address the problem.
He said the insulators in the high transmission towers had exploded after salt content in the air accumulated and they became power conductors. Steps were being taken to clean up such insulators with water jets, using de-mineralized water and replace the faulty insulators with polyvinyl insulators.
