A mammoth welcome for CM in border village

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy got an overwhelming reception as he entered Ujlamb village in Basavakalyan taluk for his Grama Vaastavya programme on Thursday, with an elephant from a nearby mutt brought in to add to the spectacle.
A female elephant named Gajalakshmi, of Kadaganchi Mutt, welcomed Mr. Kumaraswamy with a garland at the entrance of the village. The little-known village, situated 97 km away from the district headquarters on the Karnataka–Maharashtra border, has a population of 7,000.
Because of better road connectivity to Maharashtra, about 2 km away from the village, the people here prefer to expand their business activities in the neighbouring State. After completing pre-university course, most of the students continue their higher studies in Maharashtra. The road connectivity to the district headquarters is in a dismal condition and a long-pending demand of the people has been better connectivity to Bidar.
