2nd Integrated Check Post along Indo-Bangla border in Tripura approved

The Centre on Monday approved the Tripura government’s proposal for setting up an Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Sabroom in South Tripura.
The decision was taken during an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the secretary to border management under the ministry of home affairs.
This will be the second ICP along the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura after Akhaura ICP.
 
The project will be implemented by the Land Port Authority of India.
In the last few years, the effort to provide access to Chittagong Port for the northeastern states has gained pace.
In December, 2018, the union ministry of shipping, government of India signed an agreement with the government of Bangladesh to allow transportation of goods from Chittagong Port.
Meanwhile, the work for construction of a bridge over river Feni was also started and it gained pace.
The state government had sent a proposal to the union ministry of home affairs to construct the Integrated Check Post at Sabroom linking Feni bridge in 2016.
The proposal was approved in principle by the Land Port Authority of India in February, 2018.
The required 49 acres of land for setting up the ICP was identified by the industries department including 9 acres of government land.
