Meghalaya governor Tathagata Roy has called for promoting the potential of indigenous traditional medicinal plants of the state. Roy stressed the need for standardization, documentation, codification, and systematization to promote the state’s medicinal plants. The governor addressed a program on the scientific discussion of the indigenous system of medicines at the Hawkers Free Zone Market, Golflink.

The program was chaired by state health minister A. L. Hek.
In his address, the governor said the traditional system of medicine using herbs and plants for medicinal purposes has been in existence for a very long time. He also said treatment by using medicinal plants has minimal side-effects.
