Chief Minister reviews cyclone preparedness

After dashing off a letter on Wednesday to the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking relaxation in the model code of conduct in four districts to help take stock of the situation arising out of the super cyclone ‘Fani’, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday conducted a review meeting with the Secretaries and district Collectors.
Mr. Naidu also called his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik to share with him the forecast made by the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) that Fani would make landfall near Puri at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Assuring Mr. Patnaik of Andhra Pradesh’s willingness to help Odisha tackle the situation, Mr. Naidu said the neighbouring States should help each other during difficult times. Andhra Pradesh had provided material worth ₹30 crore to Odisha when it was hit severely during the cyclone last, he recalled.
As elections were over, it was meaningless to sit silently during the hour of crisis in the name of the code, he said, and added, “If required, I will visit the affected areas in the State.”
