Stray incidents mar polls in Odisha

The fate of 279 candidates contesting in five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly constituencies in Odisha was sealed in electronic voting machines in the second phase of elections on Thursday.
Three persons were killed and several incidents of poll violence were reported in many parts of the State. A nonagenarian died while waiting to cast his vote at Kansamari village under the Sanakhemundi Assembly segment of Aska.
Technical glitches prevented people from casting their votes in some areas. The Chief Electoral Officer, on the basis of reports of the Returning Officers, recommended re-poll in six booths in Sundargarh, Kandhamal and Bargarh Lok Sabha seats as people were unable to vote till noon.
The BJP candidate in the Sorada Assembly seat, Nilamani Bisoi, flung an EVM to the floor and broke it in Renti village. Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said the incident will be reported to the CEO and a police complaint will be filed.
