BJP president Jitu Vaghani gets Election Commission notice for 'haramzada' remark

State BJP president Jitu Vaghani was on Thursday served a notice by the Election Commission (EC) for using an abusive word to target the Congress party. "The Election Commission has issued a notice to Jitu Vaghani. He has been asked to submit his reply by 6:00 pm on April 20," state's chief electoral officer S Murali Krishna, told. Krishna said that further action would be taken in the matter based on Vaghani's reply.
Vaghani had stirred a controversy when he used the word 'haramzada' at a public meeting in Surat on April 7. The BJP leader later clarified that he had used the word for Congress leaders like former minister Mohammad Surti, who was convicted for involvement in the 1993 Surat bomb blast case.
