Maharashtra govt responsible for the shortage of coal in power plants- Former Union Minister
- Former Union minister Hansraj Ahir has alleged that the state's power ministry's "negligence" was responsible for the shortage of coal in power plants in Maharashtra.
- Ahir said that unplanned management led to coal shortage as Mahagenco could not enter into agreements with several coal mines of WCL for coal purchase.
- In a statement on Saturday, he said, "The state govt had not shown interest in procuring coal from WCL's Dhoptala mine in Ballarpur area of Chandrapur district."
- "Otherwise, the Dhoptala project in Ballarpur area of Chandrapur district would not have stalled for several months", he added.
- Letting you know, Maharashtra Power Minister Nitin Raut had recently said that the state is facing a shortage of 3,500 to 4,000 MW of power supply.
