Is this India? Former army man's wife didn't get pension for 70 years, fought, gets justice now

  • 81-year-old Paruli Devi, a resident of Linthura village in Uttarakhand, has received justice after 70 years, she will now get her husband's pension.
  • Paruli Devi's husband Gagan Singh died in an accident while in service in 1952 but was not getting a family pension.
  • According to the Times of India, after two months of marriage, the soldier had committed suicide. She has been fighting in the army and not receiving a pension due to unnatural death.
  • In 1977, a woman challenged in the Allahabad High Court that only the widows whose spouse has been died in war could get the pension. In 1985 the judge ruled in her favor.
  • On this basis, the Chief Controller of Defense Services approved his pension from September 1977 according to which Pauli Devi will get a total of 20 lakh rupees.
