Exposed: Finance Ministry prepared for cuts in the agriculture-related budget
The Modi government, which is making budget cuts in all the areas amid coronavirus, was also preparing to cut agriculture-related schemes.
The finance ministry had asked to cut development schemes like security mission, irrigation, organic farming. The ministry had said that these schemes do not have special benefits.
There were impacts of the Finance Minister as well. The Ministry of Agriculture also cut down on schemes providing remunerative prices or minimum support prices.
The Agriculture Ministry in its proposal sent to the Ministry of Economic Development demanded Rs 4,530 crore, but the Finance Ministry set 3712.44 crores.
The Centre was running a scheme for the sale of pulses under PSS, but the Finance Ministry believed that it was not needed.
