Will you marry her? SC hears a govt servant's case accused of seducing and raping a girl
- Supreme Court today heard a case where a government servant has been accused of seducing and raping a girl under the severe POCSO law.
- This came after the man promised a schoolgirl to marry her and later he refused about the same, after which the girl filed a rape complaint.
- During the hearing, CJI asked him, "Will you marry her? To this, the man said, "Initially I wanted to marry her. But she refused. Now I cannot as I am already married."
- After this, CJI said, "You should have thought before seducing and raping the young girl. You knew you are a govt servant."
- In this case, CJI is more worried about the accused losing his job than worried about the victim who has been raped, be it on a false promise of marriage.
