West Bengal CM announces Mega rally in Kolkata against Citizenship act

  • The West Bengal CM on Friday, announced a series of rallies across the state to protest the contentious law.
     
  • Mamata Banerjee has been one of the staunchest critics of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and had voiced her opposition to the contentious Bill even before it was passed by the parliament. 
     
  • "The Citizenship Act will divide India. As long as we are in power, not a single person in the state will have to leave the country," said the chief minister. 
     
  • Massive protests began in the Northeast even before the Citizenship bill was cleared by the parliament on Wednesday. 
     
  • So far, Chief Ministers of 3 states have declared that they will not be implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 in their states.
