During the 1965 India-Pakistan war, a tragic incident occurred that left a deep mark on Indian political history. This is the story of Balwant Rai Mehta, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, who was killed in an air strike by Pakistan. On 19th September 1965, Balwant Rai Mehta was flying in a civilian aircraft when it was shot down by a Pakistani fighter jet. It was the first time in India-Pakistan conflict history that a civilian plane was targeted, killing a sitting CM.
